    Mental Health Days

In January 2022, a new Illinois law went into effect, allowing students to take up to five (5) mental health days per school year. These absences do not require a doctor’s note.

Under the law, once a student has used two (2) mental health days, the school is required to make a referral to a school social worker or counselor. This referral is intended to help identify and support any underlying mental health needs and to ensure students receive appropriate resources.

Please review the linked document here for additional information about mental health days, including guidance and tips for parents on supporting their child’s mental well-being.
